Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
